Missouri Wildflowers Queen Anne's Lace

All of these are photos of Queen Anne's Lace and taken in Warsaw, Mo.

This one is a bit pinkish in color.
An interesting black bug on this flower below.

My daughters both entered a photo contest at the local library with a theme on bugs. This would have been a good one, but it was not for adults to enter, ha ha. Unfortunately they did not win a prize, but they enjoyed the process and are taking note of the bugs more than usual, as is their mother.

This is a group of chicory in the meadow on our farm. I love this wildflower!

Missouri Wildflowers Part II

This orange flower is so vibrant isn't it? It might be lantana growing wild. The bees sure did like it. There is a honey bee in the second photo.
I don't know if this fern produces a flower or not, but it's pretty enough for a photograph anyway.

Missouri Wildflowers

These wildflower photos were taken down in Warsaw, Mo. There are so many photo opportunities with all the wildlife and greenery of the beautiful wooded area where my mother and father in law live.

I believe this first one is called crown vetch. I've noticed it's being used as a ground cover quite commonly. And why not, it's so pretty! It has purplish pink flowers and a fern like leaf.

This could be called butterweed. The tiny yellow flowers are so bright and cheerful.

This white one may be called a fairy wand.
One of my favorites, spider wort. It's just about finished blooming for the year.
This pink one is very sweet and I have no idea what it is. I'm going to check the library for a wildflower indentifacation book and will update this post when I find out for sure.

I have so many photos I will have to do a couple more posts with wildflowers. One will be dedicated to Queen Anne's Lace exclusively. I got some really cool shots to share.

Plowing The Fields

We had some of our fields plowed about a week ago. It's been rained on twice now which is a good thing so that the dirt will settle and hopefully help the grass to rot underneath. It will have to be disked again after the ground dries out before we can do any planting.

Spring Activities on the Farm

We have had a lot of work on our small farm this spring. We are removing old fences in our west pasture in order to plow the meadows and grow some crops.

It's also been a challenge getting our garden planted as it has been so wet.

Some trees from the fence lines are now moved to our yard as well.

We have a new rooster that my sister brought to us. He's a beautiful Barred Rock Plymouth. She found it on Craig's list.

He was not getting along with another rooster at his previous farm. We had only hens before he came so he gets along just fine here.

For the first two nights though he went missing and we thought for sure he had not survived. But low and behold, he was with the ponies in the barnyard! I came to find out at his last home he was in a pen next to horses.

So he's our chicken horse...at least that's what he thinks. He's staying with the hens now and doing very well.

I taped my youngest son gathering eggs last week and quite a little ordeal with a hen that didn't want to move from her nest. She was pecking and squaking up a little tantrum like I've never seen our hens do before! Her name is Goldie and she is a Buff Orphington.
